John L. Walters is editor and co-owner (with Simon Esterson) of Eye, the international review of graphic design; he also edits Pulp, which Eye makes (in five languages) for Fedrigoni Group. Walters worked as a musician and record producer before launching award-winning CD journal Unknown Public in the 1990s. For five years he wrote a regular column for The Guardian; he has also written for The Independent, Varoom, Crafts, The Wire and others. He is the author of Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress (Laurence King) and the Design Museum’s Fifty Typefaces That Changed the World. Walters has helped programme many design events, including Eye’s regular Type Tuesdays at St Bride Library, which have been running for ten years. He has won three ‘Editor of the Year’ trophies in the BSME (British Society of Magazine Editors) Awards. Walters has edited Pulp since its launch in 2014 and Eye since 1999.
