Speaker Bio
Dra. Silvia Mata-Marin is a design researcher and social designer from Costa Rica. She holds an MA in Social Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art and a PhD in Transition Design from Carnegie Mellon. For the past 8 years her work has been situated in the intersection between design and critical migration studies. Her research aims to uncover design’s complicit nature in (re)producing systems of exclusion based on binary categories which sustain modernity’s logic. She is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the School of Arts of Universidad de Costa Rica, where she is Head of the Department of Graphic Design.
