Speaker Bio
David Hisaya Asari is a graphic designer and design educator, based in Oakland, California. At California College of the Arts, he is faculty for Graphic Design, Critical Ethnic Studies, and Special Programs. He has taught Graduate Design, First Year Program, and Pre-College; and leads a Japan study abroad course. His GD studio course focuses on information visualization. He is co-chair of FOCA (Faculty of Color Alliance). His design experience ranges from information graphics, exhibition design, environmental design, and wayfinding systems to branding, editorial design, books, and packaging. In addition to his own practice, David had worked for over a decade as a senior designer at the San Francisco office of Pentagram, with Kit Hinrichs. President Emeritus of AIGA San Francisco, David continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He has served as an Advisor to SF Design Week; and, is a member of AIGA Design Educators Community Steering Committee.
